More about us
We are the official team of King’s College London, representing the university in our BUCS South Eastern 2 league and in our annual varsity series against UCL. We are an open and inclusive club taking in members both with no prior rugby experience and those who have played for academy teams. Our club provides a fun and engaging atmosphere with members from all over the globe.
On this page we will give you a little more information about our fixtures, socials and events and a little insight into what the club is like.
Fixtures
The majority of the season is taken up with with our teams competing in their BUCS fixtures. This usually starts around the first week of October and ends in March. These leagues are usually highly competitive and as such provides you with a strong aim and difficult goal to achieve whilst at university, outside of your academic studies. We play BUCS games most Wednesdays during term time.
We also take part in two main non-BUCS competitions in the year. The Macadam cup which is a competition against our medical school GKT, and the most important event of the year against UCL, Varsity. Both of these events come at the end of March. We also take part in a number of 7’s tournaments for some flair summer rugby
Socials
Every Wednesday we hold whole club socials for all the boys regardless of team or if you are a social member. These typically start after our BUCS fixtures or training sessions with our Social Secretaries organising fun and varied socials for each week. Socials are the best way to make new friends and get to know the other members of the club. Our socials usually end in central London near where our members live, typically at our student union (The Vault) or The Dover Castle pub.
Some memorable socials include Viking night and Roman night, the attire for these should be self-explanatory, as well as family auctions and Kangaroo court. We also organise fun socials outside of Wednesdays for things such as the Rugby World Cup and Six Nations.
Events
Over the course of the academic year the club has a number of important events. The most important event of the year is Rob Tagg which is a day in which many of our alumni come back and play a friendly game against the current members. Then all go out for some drinks afterwards for a fun evening of getting to know those who cam before us. This is a day in memory of one of our old members, Rob Tagg.
Other key events include Christmas and Summer dinner where we come together as a club to look over the past semester and year. These are black tie events and include a three course meal. We also hold multiple charity events throughout the year, the chief of which being Movember, as well as other student run events such as Strictly Come Dancing.
